Hello everyone!

Hope you're all doing well. I'm still in Scotland (and a little upset that time is passing too quickly and I only have another two weeks before I'm back in sweltering Malta). I love this country so much, and I love being independent. The only thing I'm missing are my six gorgeous bunnies - the five babies were still half adult size when I left home; they're going to be so big when I'm back!
I can't wait till my last year as a medical student is over so everything I have been wishing for can finally start rolling - moving permanently to the UK, graduating and working as a doctor, getting my drivers licence, buying a new camera (and a few nice lenses), and start hiking and being more adventurous. Oh, and getting myself a pet dog!

To celebrate dA's 15th birthday, all deviants have been asked to respond to the...

This seemed like it would be fun to do to. I might not have gone for it if it wasn't because I was tagged by a couple of my followers in their own answers (I'd love to meet you too, Lorelei-Photographie, and thank you for listing me among your favourite artists Freckle-F0x  ). So, here we go! c:
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
I have been on deviantArt for just over 6 years; for my first three years I used a different account where I uploaded some of the drawings and paintings I did while in secondary school. DeviantArt played a very big role in my discovery of photography as a form of art - I'd actually discovered the site for the first time after a google search for wallpapers for one of my first mobile phones linked me to some awesome colourful fractals on the site! I made an account simply to be able to tell these people their stuff was simply awesome.

For the last three years I've been using this account, and I created it shortly after getting the hang of my baby Canon 600D which I'd bought a few months before. This account has seen me develop from a photography noob to a somewhat better amateur photographer, who still can't put the camera down.

  2. What does your username mean?
Haha - my username isn't innovative at all ;P It's pretty much just my name (Sarah), with the BK being the initials for my two surnames - Bugeja Kissaun. My first surname is a typical and common Maltese surname, while the latter is Irish (though my mother is actually Maltese also. The surname was passed down a few generations... with the true Irish man bearing the original surname being my great great grandfather. The surname is believed to be a mistake of the actual Irish surname Kissane, which is believed to have happened somewhere along some old transcriptions). My first account went by the username 'x-Sassy-x' (which was a nickname of mine in secondary school) - I'd come to dislike it with a passion after a while but at the time there was no option to change usernames. Hence, when creating this account I thought that sticking with my real name would save me later regrets.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Ponderer. Indecisive. Curious.

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    I'm a righty!

  5. What was your first deviation?
Awh - it's probably not on dA, and to be honest, I really cannot remember. What I will link is my very first attempt at photoshop, which I still have uploaded. It's really embarrassing, but looking at it now I think 'I've come so far' - (The Eye of a Star). I'd have never thought I'd be so familiar with Photoshop years down the line!

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Easy - photography. It's pretty much what I do exclusively now and still absolutely love it. I've been through many kinds of art throughout my lifetime though, all of which I enjoyed.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Probably digital painting, or simply the ability to be able to draw what I see in my mind. I'll never have enough time to develop such an artistic skill because it demands a lot of time and practice. I do admire heavily those that are capable.

  8. What was your first favourite?
    Virgo eye by ftourini
Not my very first favourite, but definitely one of the first photos I was absolutely and utterly mesmerized by. This artist definitely influenced my still very strong love for eyes, dreamy photography and eye macros.

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Photography of course! I create loads of photos, and I admire loads of photos :meow:

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Ah, very very difficult question. I admire so many artists on here, each creators of art in their own unique way. I think if I had to name one person who left the biggest impact on me during the last three years it would be meganjoy . Her photography is very simple, adorable and technically excellent. There was something about her presence in the community, when she was still more active, which was really tangible. That's not to say I'm dismissing the tens of artists I absolutely adore on here - because they are all still very special to me.

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Everybody I admire and/or have had interesting conversations with on here! One of my dreams is to do a photography meetup with a bunch of photographers and creative minds. One day... c: (I distinctively remember though, I had a dream some months ago where I dreamt I met OliviaMichalski in person :giggle: )

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
So many deviants have made small and big impacts on my life - from the very first photographers I discovered (leading me to discovering the hobby I am most devoted to), to those creating inspirational pieces that really stuck in my mind, to those leaving such valuable feedback on my artwork - even a certain number of favourites let me know that what I have created means something to so many.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
My trusty Canon EOS 600D along with my two favourite lenses - my EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro and EF 40mm f/2.8 STM.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Well it depends - for my conceptual photographs, ideas crop up in my mind in all sorts of places. Sometimes I'll be in my room, sometimes it'll be when I'm waiting or journeying on a bus... and for me the initiation and development of an idea or concept is part of the creation. As for the actual capturing of such images, I'd say my roof is the best place. It's the only part of my house with fantastic lighting.

Being out and about though (especially among beautiful landscapes and nature) is both highly inspirational as well as being a place where I can create numerous photographs depicting nature's wonders. It's not something I can do very much in Malta since I am not much inspired anymore by what it has to offer, but travelling certainly opens many doors for such creations. Nature is so inspiring, and do wish to be permanently based in a country where a simple drive out of the city can take me to such wonders.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Getting my first Daily Deviation on a photograph that was, at that time, the BEST photograph I could have ever imagined myself coming up with and capturing! Well, I am still very proud of it till today... it's very special to me :meow:
I was so excited when the finalised idea just materialised so clearly in my head, that I didn't mind all the experimentation and setting up that it took to make it come to life. I'd never taken anything like it - a completely innovative setup. It received the award within 24 hours of being submitting to deviantArt - that truly took me by surprise!

Hope you enjoyed reading some facts about me and my experience on deviantArt! If my response to this questionnaire triggered you to fill out your own... link me! I'd love to read it c:

Wish you all lots of inspiration and deviousness,

    Sarah

thank you, everyone.

I never thought there would be so many of you who would have chosen to follow my uploads. I am very appreciative of all your feedback on my photography - always more than glad to thank/reply to each and every one of you who leaves comments (or even critiques) on my photography; however while I cannot do the same with favorites, I do note each and every one and am very thankful for those too.

As a way of thanking you all for being so awesome, I'd like to do something for you all. Be it a before/after edit, a tutorial... you name it. Just let me know in the comments.

A small update of things that cross my mind:
:bulletpink: I'll be in Scotland again this summer <3 Once again for a hospital attachment, but like last year plenty of time to explore Scotland's gorgeousness in between.
:bulletpurple: Next year I graduate (!) and will almost definitely be moving to the UK permanently to work as a doctor (and live somewhere where I think I will be much happier).
:bulletpink: Having a pet rabbit is more awesome than most people think. She is currently resting on my chest as I type one-handedly :3
:bulletpurple: I should be going to watch Ed Sheeran live this summer!
:bulletpink: I have been doing a lot of internet reading about Fuji's X-series cameras (specifically the X-T1) and lenses, and for the first time I cannot consider myself a 100% Canon supporter. I might actually swap over to Fujifilm next year, instead of buying a Canon 5D series camera which had been my fixed dream for years.
:bulletpurple: I am sick of the backwardness (and selfishness) of Maltese people. We had a referendum last week in attempts to ban spring hunting... and we were unsuccessful. Spring hunting is still legal. Hundreds (and thousands) of birds are being shot for fun.

Hope you are all doing fine. Once again, thank you every single one of you for putting a smile on my face and a feeling of inner happiness in my heart.

Have a nice weekend,

Sarah <3

Been a while since I've written an entry, eh? Time is my worst enemy - just slips from my fingers so quickly. I have been quite busy however, and with exams nearing (again somehow) it won't change. I do try to fill you in using the Artist's Comments section - and I do this because I love reading about the life of other artists who do the same. It just gives their work an extra real dimension - fitting in a slot of their life.

I felt like writing a short list of thoughts I'd like to share with all of you, just as a small update:
  1. I've officially been two years uploading photography to dA! And I'm so proud to have you 800+ watchers who in some way felt they believed in me for long enough that pressing the Watch button was worth something. Thank you.

  2. I've been accepted for a surgical elective in Glasgow! I'll be there in July/August for 5 weeks - this is the longest I'll ever be spending away from my home country, and it's going to be one very exciting challenge for me c: I am honestly looking forward to it for so many reasons - especially because it's going to be a life changing experience. Of course, awesome photo opportunities certainly await. I've heard Scotland is beautiful.

  3. I've been contemplating the idea of doing a themed exhibition, just for the kicks of it. I'd love to do one before I graduate - so I'd like to make it happen within two years. I want to focus it on people and portraits in some way or another, because it will be a challenge for me (I rarely go out of my way to do photoshoots with others). Do you have any ideas to share? I'd love to hear C:

  4. The nifty Fifty, even though being more like a plastic toy to some, is one strong beast of a lens. I managed to drop it some weeks ago onto solid rock from arm-length height, and it remained perfectly whole. The glass remained in one piece too! All that happened was the AF mechanism started to jam and make loud noises, but it was easily repairable - my father and I opened it up and fixed it up so that's it's like new again C:

  5. Speaking of things falling and breaking - you remember that little glass bottle from some of my more recent photos? Well, despite still having a number of ideas for it, while I was away for a weekend Seminar (part of my course), the bottle somehow fell off my highest shelf and broke :c I loved it so much </3

Hope all's alright with you guys! I'd love a one-liner to know something exciting that's happened to you in the last few months ^^

Studying by juhaihai

exams by Rebecca-Ninig

Summer Memory by Mattmankoga
Decided to randomly participate in the MyWeekThroughArt. This will probably repeat itself again next week... and next week ^^;
I don't usually go out after exams so as not to disturb my study routine, but with an entire week till my next exam, I thought going out once with some friends and having my first swim and BBQ of the year was a better idea than staying home for another day. You kinda forget what the sun feels like...

This new Add Media feature will definitely help in the creation of features! I really like it (:
